netbook - earlyish month
Hello, and well met. My name is Joshua, and I have only just recently arrived in this place.
Might there be someone here skilled in the making of medicine? I would appreciate any information you might have.
Thank you.

"He hates the taste, as well. If he can avoid taking it, he will. All but disappears when it's time back home."
[ And Vanilla holds a hand in front of his mouth to avoid laughing at Joshua being absolutely called out. Ah. ]
Yes, most medicines - especially those of herbal make - are often bitter. Yet I have perfected techniques to reduce the bitter or sour taste to them, into something far more palatable.
no subject
That... would be preferable. If only you had been able to relay such secrets to those in my world that have made this medicine for me.
[ His childhood may have been... well, he can't say far healthier, but less fraught with clamped mouths and pleas not to take it. ]
no subject
Pure Vanilla does laugh there, just a little, a soft noise. ]
It is specific plants, and I am not surprised they are not found in your home. Please, leave it to me, my friend. I promise you, you will have a replacement before you run out, and you shall be glad to take it.
[ He ponders the sample on the desk, tilting his head thoughtfully. ]
Is there anything else I should be aware of?
no subject
Thank you. Truly, it means a lot.
[ As for anything else... Pure Vanilla is still somewhat of a stranger. He's trying not to reveal too much information about either of them. But he is entrusting his medicine to the man, and if he's a healer, he may find things out eventually anyway...
He turns his head, looking to Clive. Thoughts? ]

The stare is obvious between the two of them, who can understand the other better.
Tell him, its your health, I can't lose you again to a stupid illness this time.
Then he sighs lightly and lifts a shoulder, head tilting as he shrugs. It's up to Joshua however, because the way Clive hasn't relaxed - even with helping White Lily - it's obvious he doesn't quite trust them yet.
Not when it comes to Joshua. ]

Joshua lets out a soft huff of breath, turning back to Pure Vanilla. ]
Before we arrived here, I had been... holding a fragment of a god-like entity prisoner inside of my body for five years. It took a severe toll on my health, but I had no other choice.
He is no longer in my body, but I do not know whether or not it has left any lasting effects.
no subject
I understand more than most how that must have drained you badly.
[ And he understands how it might have badly wrecked the others body. It wouldn't just be from the constant strain of the entity trying to escape, but also containing power that might be too much for his body. Like a Cookie using Forbidden Magic that started to crumble his body. Rip it apart.
Without his Soul Jam, he can't look into Joshua's soul properly, can't see the hidden truths of his body. He can see them with the golden glasses enchantment on his staff, the fire that pours off of Joshua and wisps off into beautiful feathers on his back-
-but not the damage done to him. ]
Your symptoms got worse with it in you?
no subject
[ It's surprising to hear, so Joshua offers a gentle invitation to explain. If Pure Vanilla doesn't want to, he certainly isn't going to pull it out of him, but the offer stands regardless.
Because now he has more explaining to do himself. He sighs, putting his hand on his chest. ]
My coughing fits grew more frequent and more severe, and it made me cough up concerning amounts of blood. There were times when my attendant had to force me to sit and rest.
cw: internal injury
How long has it been since you have been freed from this entity?
[ A lot of blood... which means the scarring - if it is scarring - has progressed to the point it is tearing the lungs apart with every cough. The lungs trying to work against the tightness and forcing instead to rip away from it.
If it is a sort of rotting... no, at that point, even breathing would be impossible. Unless the mans healing flame keeps it in check. ]

With a heavy breath, Joshua folds his hands together on his knees. ]
... just prior to finding myself here. He burst from my body. My brother told me that I did not survive.

[ His face falls as he apologizes, glancing between the brothers. Clives head has bowed and his arms have folded over his chest again, classic defensive positioning. He glances back to Joshua, his expression pensive. ]
I truly did not mean to bring up such a horrible memory. Please forgive me.
[ But that might be a boon for Joshua. Their erstwhile Host does love it when his guests are in their top condition to then rip them apart again. ]
Though I cannot be for certain, given what I know of this world and our Captor, I do believe you will find your health at a point of "before". But we cannot be for certain until you have a fit, I'm afraid...
[ Nonetheless he will work to make sure Joshua's medication is strong enough... ]
no subject
No, no. Please, do not apologize. You are a healer, and you should know the extent of it.
[ He glances back at Clive, frowning. It's both easy and difficult to tell how his brother is handling this. Easy, because he's able to read his brother's body language, but difficult because he is not a mind reader. Clive could be shutting down, for all he knows. ]
If it is any consolation to you, I have yet to fall into a coughing fit. Granted, I have only been here a handful of days, but I have yet to cough the same way I did before.
no subject
And Pure Vanilla does take that with a little bit of relief. Though he knows that might change with their upcoming attempt on Suri. He sighs softly and nods gently, his Staff closing it's eye finally. As if letting them both take a break. ]
That is good to hear but I must beg of you, the moment you begin to cough and it is safe to do so, contact me. Do not attempt to come to me, I will go to you. Please, do not hesitate. Your health is my utmost concern.
no subject
Of course. Thank you. Your dedication truly is admirable, Pure Vanilla Cookie.
[ He stands, folding an arm in front of himself with the other behind, and bows slightly at the hips. Even his encounter with Mid hasn't quite drilled the proper noble way of doing things out of his head. ]
And please, do not hesitate to call me, should you need assistance. I may have already pledged my assistance to the clinic, but this is a more personal request.
no subject
Oh! Yes! My pardon!
[ His Staff opens again, blinking to glance back to the men. Did he miss something? Oh he's bowing! Oh! Pure Vanilla looks delighted - it reminds him of Clotted Cream Cookie so much, he hasn't been bowed to in forever - and he stands to put his hand over his heart and bow gently back. ]
My friend, you have my word, should I require your aid I will contact you. Both of you.
no subject
O-oh, no, I'm sorry. I didn't know that you were unable to see.
[ But, he clears his throat, shaking off the surprise. Pure Vanilla doesn't seem to be offended - in fact, it seems the polar opposite. No sense in dwelling on it. ]
Thank you. We are in your debt, and I would know of no better way of repaying the favor.
no subject
I made no mention of it, how were you to know? My Staff is connected to me, and sees for me. When it closes, it is as good as closing my own. Your brother would not have known had my wife not alerted him.
[ His tail wiggles gently and the look he throws Lily's way is pure adoration. He's obviously not upset over her slipping his secrets out. It's not exactly one, after all.
And while he wants to send the both of them right back to the Inn, he promised to - silently but he did promise - to share his story with Joshua. The other gave him his, after all. ]
As to your earlier inquiry... there is a school of magic in my world that is far powerful than most can handle. To use it pushes the body to the point of crumbling.
[ He inclines his head a little in that and you can guess why I'm saying this manner. ]
As well as that, my husband and wife and I, and two of our friends, were chosen to bear great god-like power. Though I have given mine up to aid those here who struggle to aid us, I well remember the weight of it.
just a tidbit, skipsies otherwise
no subject
Yes, I suppose you're right.
[ Getting an explanation isn't expected, though, but Joshua will listen regardless. It's only fair, and besides that, he's genuinely interested. And boy, does it sound familiar. Pure Vanilla was correct when he said that he knew the weight of it. ]
That... does sound oddly familiar.
[ Like Dominants. Like the curse that comes to all Bearers eventually. ]
What sort of power, if you don't mind my asking? Simply out of curiosity, of course.
no subject
[ He says it so simply, so softly, and he raises his fingers to lightly touch one of his eyelids. He misses it. He was a simple Cookie before it, and being without it is not something he has never experienced before, but now his world is dark. Then he opens his eyes to show how they're blind, the soft faded color of them not even shining anymore with the hidden Light in him. ]
In exchange for it's light to uncover the Truth of Everything, my eyesight was taken from me. Instead I was gifted the ability to see the Truth. Of a person, of the words they spoke, of things others wished to keep hidden. The Truth granted me this. I also could not speak anything but. It was a great honor to wield it, to use it to help others.
[ He closes his eyes and offers a small smile, knowing better than to let himself drift too deep or Lily may come over and pinch him again. Her pinches are full of love. And full of ouch. Doesn't let himself doubt. ]
It rested on my chest in the form of a blue gem of pure life, housed in a casing upon my robes. And should I have ever strayed from it, I would lose it. The Soul Jams come to those who resonate with it, but can as easily be lost when our ideals are no longer entwined. It was me, as much as I was it.
[ Clive is chewing on the inside of his cheek, keeping silent. ]
