MATTERS OF THE HEART
Who: Livio, Wolfwood, Elsword, Mizuki, Add, Heimr
What: heimrquest
When: several days after the bar is built, late in the evening
Where: ???????
Warnings: mentioned child death, mentions of plague, paranoia, supernatural-driven insanity, survivor's guilt, death, possession, impersonation, body horror. more will be added as needed.
The General Store isn't always the most bustling place, least of all in a small make-shift town of only a handful of people, each one more troubled than the last. But at some point, each and every one of you has needed something from Heimr today. Maybe it was just a bag of candy. Maybe it was something more pressing, or some groceries. Regardless, one by one he's tended to your needs, and you leave the store with little fanfare save for the fact that it's unusually foggy out this evening- not enough that you can't see other buildings...
Until you can't.
All around you is a heavy mist, and the scent of a wood fire and warm spices floats through the air. There's no turning back, so all you can do is move forward.
On an OOC note, the Choose Your Own Adventure threads will eventually merge into one group thread. Once this occurs, mod tags will occur after each involved character has tagged, or after 24 hours have passed. That said, if it looks like good banter or development is happening, the Mod will hold off a bit or until dramatic irony strikes.

Well, I don't wanna be a threat to the lake, I just like fishing. [lmao.] Me and Elesis are really good at dealing with this sort of stuff, though!

It's said in a deadpan yet still fatherly tone, and one hand moves to pinch Elsword's cheek.
"No noodling the Guardian, and don't go near the eyes in the water. Especially at night. Understood?"
no subject
'Kayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
[Were this not a memory he would be at this lake at night—]
I'll leave the Guardian alone. We can go back to town if you want, since it's awake.
[Let him and his noble knightly self escort you.]

"If the Lake Guardian's out, ain't no reason to risk our hides. We still got plenty to do and see anyways- let's go, son."
... It seems "Elijah" isn't on his mind anymore, since he makes no gesture to hold an invisible child or even look for him.
no subject
Yep, let's go. ...what's Elijah like to do these days, anyway? [Let's get the old man's brain focused back on his son, Elsword thinks. The one that ain't him.]
no subject
"E... Elijah? --Elsword, was I... Was I actin' like he was alive again?"
He's quiet for a moment before he suddenly grips Elsword's shoulders, almost desperate;
"Did I hurt you or say anything to you?"
no subject
[Oh. Um. Well! Elsword has lost the plot a little but that's okay, he's just like that. This seems to him sort of like when God possesses his brain and says "Elsword do that thing with the El" and he goes "yes ma'am". That's about what he thinks is going on.]
Yeah, you were, but you didn't do anything bad. We were talking about the Lake Guardian and how I'm not allowed to noodle it. And you said you were showing Elijah the lake. ...and it's not like he ever showed up, but you were holding an invisible "him" and saying you were showing him the lake. That's really it.
no subject
"...Let's just go. We can... go fishin' by the river. Evan might wanna come too."
But as he turns to leave, gently ushering Elsword along, he can't help but mutter-
"The lake? Did it want access to the Lake Guardian, or somethin' else? I don't.... fuck. I don't remember."
no subject
[Genuinely this is The most Elsword idea he's had other than the noodling.]
no subject
"Ah- That... yeah, maybe. Sorry, Elsword. Was just thinkin' out loud."
no subject
[He tucks his arms back behind his head.]
I think out loud a lot too. Think more. Maybe you can figure it out if you talk at me.
no subject
no subject
Yeah, pretty much daily. [Even though he looks like a different version of himself, he's not that guy. He's not from the timeline where everything is maybe a little bit okay.] But Add is always there trying to help me remember it, so I'll pay it forward for you.

[Why are we Squeezing him??]
Hey, it's okay. [Soothing circles into dad's back...] You're gonna be fine, I promise. That's why I'm here.
no subject
"This is for you, more than it is for me. What's happenin to ya, son?"
no subject
That's what happens when you're, uh... [diseased] you know, young. [He's not doing good at this.] You do some stupid stuff, and then you feel like the world is crashing down around you.
[And sometimes, it literally is.]
no subject
"... I'm sorry."
no subject
[Pats Aldric's back...]
I'm good at dealing with the difficult stuff. You just gotta let me help you out. It's what I'm best at.
no subject
Which... may explain a lot of the heaviness in his bones, honestly. Aldric loves the children of the Grove. They're family, like his own flesh and blood. But by god there are so many orphans.
no subject
So, the inhalation dies as soon as he sucks it in, but he swiftly rewords what he wanted to say into something far more sentimental.]
Sometimes it's a kid's job to say that they love the adults and want to help them, too. I'm old enough to help you now, right?
no subject
"... When did you get so big?"
no subject
I didn't get that big. I'm still kinda short. [never fucking mind] This is just stuff I learnt along the way. Adults are kinda like bigger kids. They never stop needing help.
no subject
Aldric is quiet again, before he pulls back, and lets the exhaustion and fear really show in his sunken eyes.
"... I've been- seein my son. Elijah- Audrey's twin. The one who didn't make it. But every time I do, I lose memories of what I was doin' and- people have been lookin at me lately. Like something's wrong. I don't know what's happenin', Elsword. But I know it's bad."
no subject
Is it... [It sounds familiar to him in ways that it shouldn't.] ...do you think the Creature is doing this to you? The thing in the forest wants something from you, I bet.
[A name, an identity...]
Maybe it's not a real solution... but I had a friend once who wrote everything down. Everything. Because he was always scared he'd forget. [Elsword wonders if the Noah of this world is normal, too. If his brother is okay.] I'm bad at doing that myself, but that's because I rely on Add. If you can't rely on pen and paper, then...
[Hoo boy. It's gonna be a bold thing to propose, El-rotted as his brain is, but:]
Let me be your memory. I can keep it all straight for you.
